Dr. Krista Lerner grew up in River Falls Wisconsin and has always been enthralled by teeth! It was very clear from an early age that dentistry would be her path. In dental school, when she was exposed to all the multiple specialties in the field, she was encouraged to go into oral surgery by a professor who recognized her innate talent. Currently, Dr. Lerner practices the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery and has a particular interest in dentoalveolar surgery and dental implants.
Dr. Lerner loves Colorado and has been thrilled to be with Boulder Oral Surgery since 2017. She would like all of her Boulder patients to know that it is her aim to make each of her patients feel comfortable by listening very carefully to their story and why they are seeing her, and then work hard to make sure they know they are in the right place, get them excited about their results, relieve their discomfort, and change their lives for the better. At Boulder Oral Surgery, our care extends beyond the doors of the practice, and we pride ourselves on this.
Dr. Lerner is also on the hospital staff and takes trauma calls at Boulder Community Hospital — there are only four oral surgeons in Boulder who do this! (Dr. Nedbalski is one of the other three!)
Dr. Lerner graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry in 2009 and subsequently completed a General Practice Hospital residency at the University of Minnesota where she gained an immense amount of experience in multifaceted dental treatment. She then spent a year at LSU Health Hospital in New Orleans gaining more oral surgery experience prior to completing her four-year oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at the University of Missouri, Kansas City.
Dr. Lerner is fully trained in dentoalveolar surgery, dental implants, oral pathology, facial trauma, orthognathic, reconstructive, and TMJ surgery. She has also had the opportunity to spend time abroad in India and Mexico treating cleft lips and palates and dental pain in children and adults.
She is board-certified with the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and is a member of the Colorado Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American Dental Association, and the Colorado State Dental Association. Additionally, in residency, Dr. Lerner was an active member of the OMS political action committee and AAOMS resident organization.
Dr. Lerner is trained in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Life support (PALS), and Advanced Trauma life support (ATLS). In addition, all of her surgical assistants are DAANCE certified (AAOMS-certified for anesthesia).
For Dr. Lerner, family time comes first, and it is the fuel that ignites her passion for her work as an oral surgeon. She lives in the Boulder area with her husband Zack, son Max, and two dogs Murphy and Millie. Skiing, cycling, running, and golfing, are just some of the many activities she enjoys with her family.
